barnet / बालासन
barnet / बालासन (2019)
photography / performance, 100 cm x 70 cm
FineArt print, mounted on aluminium
Photo in collaboration with Axel Öberg
In Sanskrit, बालासन signifies ”balasana”, a breathing position called "child's pose" in English, where "asana" means position and "bala" stands for child. In yoga, child's pose is always available for a moment of respite; a position to land in, to gather ones body, breath and mind. If we delve deeper into the many layers of the word, we find that 'bala' also diverges through pistol bullets, wounds, strength, power and force. As such, the word balasana can be understood as a word that signifies a borderland in between the outmost vulnerable and the outstandingly strong.
barnet / बालासन was made in collaboration with a group of pupils from Storå skola in Bergslagen, Sweden, and the photographer Axel Öberg. The work was made possible by the support of Konstfrämjandet Bergslagen, Lindesbergs kommun, Region Örebro Län, Kulturrådet, Storå skola, Stripa Grufpensionat, and Stripabryggeriet. It has been exhibited at Stripa Gallerirum in Guldsmedshyttan, Sweden.
