Bokbord
Bokbord (2017)
Dinner table of beech wood
300x120x75 cm
Made in collaboration with Pål Rodenius
Edition of one. Displayed in the home of its private owner
Bokbord is a dinner table made entirely out of beech wood. In Swedish the word for beech is "bok", a word that carries the meaning of the large beautiful trees that the beech wood is made out of, as well as of a literary composition ("book"). Tracing the written word book and its Swedish equivalent bok through their history, one finds that the earliest Indo-European writings may have been carved onto beech wood. As the word "bord" translates into "table", Bokbord also performs a word play on the feminist literature tradition of a book table.
Bokbord was initially made to serve as an installation display for the material archive of The Family Dinner, as well as the scenography of the performances Dinner, again and "What is this thing called an archive, really?". It now serves as the dinner table in the home of a private owner.
