Community Action Center and Beyond/Before – Three days of sociosexual affinity was a three-day event in two different Stockholm spaces, that brought together a selection of socio-sexual films & videos by the artists A.K. Burns, A.L. Steiner, Barbara Hammer, Malin Arnell, Marit Östberg and Kajsa Dahlberg. The films and works presented celebrate desire and redefine notions of queer sexuality and the lesbian body. Presenting a multigenerational overview of representation, this three-day event put focus on contemporary artistic practices, which incorporated avant-garde visions of sexuality and the erotic; dissecting the trope of pornography itself. In addition, the artists Kutterfugel and Elin Magnusson were invited to compose the evenings with live music and DJ sets.
Community Action Center, Before and Beyond is a zine partly documenting and partly extending the fathoms and correlations initiated within the project. It was released in March 2012 at the screening of Community Action Center at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMa). The zine, printed in 200 editions only, compiles different queer feminist voices and perspectives on the renegotiation and complexification of the term porn. Presented within it, you find some of the artists, writers, curators and performers whose time, bodies and minds are crucial for our different and shared communities. The zine has been sold out.
With support by Swedish Arts Council, The Culture Administration of Stockholm, and The Workers Educational Association of Stockholm (ABF).
