gränsens arkiv (archive of the border, 2019)
49 cyanotypes a´20 x 25 centimeters, various papers
Blue yarn from Östergötlands ullspinneri, pine tree branches from The Border Forest that has been coloured blue through the cyanotype technique
gränsens arkiv is a set of 49 depictions of Gränseskogen (the Border Forest), made through the technique cyanotype. Cyanotype is the predecessor of blueprints; an old photo development process from the 1800's, in which two chemicals are brushed onto a paper, or any kind of natural material, which is then exposed to sunlight. The part of the paper that is shadowed remains white, while the rest slowly transforms into a borderland in-between green and blue. When the paper reaches water an oxidising process is initiated; immediately transforming green into deep blue. In the work gränsens arkiv, the 49 participants of the project have collaboratively let fallen material from the forest generate shadows and a rich archive of the forest has taken shape, like white borders through blue oceans.
